What is a carbon sink?

Carbon sink is anything that absorbs more carbon from the atmosphere than it releases. Forests, wetlands, oceans, and soil are the largest carbon sinks in the world.

Today, human activities such as burning fossil fuels and deforestation cause more carbon to be released into the atmosphere than natural carbon sinks on Earth can absorb, leading to global warming and climate change. Therefore, protecting and enhancing carbon sinks is a key strategy for addressing climate change and stabilizing the climate.
